AOS&FC Offers Personalized Music Players

It has always been universally understood that listening to one’s favorite music is enjoyable and can lift one’s mood. However, during the past few years we’ve come to better understand that therapeutic value music can have on those with dementia.

National Dementia Friends Initiative and AOS & Friends Care, Inc.

On Jan. 17, the Dementia Friendly America organization (www.dfamerica.org/) released their Dementia Friends USA initiative which is a global movement that is changing the way people think, act, and talk about dementia. Originally developed by the Alzheimer’s Society in the United Kingdom, it is geared towards helping everyone in a community understand what dementia is and how it affects people, and how each of us can make a difference for people touched by dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Association estimates that there are currently more than 5.4 million Americans with Alzheimer’s the most common form of dementia. By 2030 this number may rise to over 13 million as there currently is no cure nor prevention for the disease. Here in Moore County Alzheimer’s is the third leading cause of death which is “nearly three times higher than the state average.”
